Learning to read

No, we're not there yet, Nathan is only 3.5, but he has really taken an interest in "reading" lately.

First I read him a book, then he reads it back to me with surprising amounts of accuracy. I think he has inherited his mommy's memory!

Today after reading a story together Nathan asked me to teach him to read, and if you have a 3 year old you know that telling them they can't just isn't going to work. So we started to learn to read.

We started with playing some starfall

then moved on to tracing the letter A

Then he noticed that the A's had triangles as their top half

Which reminded him of drawing other shapes

Which reminded him of Cedar Point and other sorts of architecture

Which finally lead to a drawing of Cedar Point

Which then of course lead to building with blocks and completely forgetting that he was "learning to read"

I love watching him move from one thought to the next and learning through play
