Children's music discoveries

Nathan loves when Anthony and I sing to him, he gets really excited and smiles. So yesterday I was running out of songs to sing, and quickly getting sick of singing the same songs over and over again. So I decided to look up some of my childhood favorites online, and I have fallen in love with these songs all over again!!

First we checked out Joe Scruggs, my personal favorite cd's are "Late Last Night" and "Traffic Jams" I was suprised at how many of the words I still remembered from when I was little! I always have had an eaiser time remembering songs or things music oriented. Nathan will definitely be receiving at least one of those cd's in his Easter basket this year!

Today we moved on to Sharon, Lois and Bram. I was disapointed at first that I couldn't find any of their songs online aside from clips, but then I went to youtube and found entire episodes of "The Elepahnt Show"!!! Nathan was in love because he loves music and singing, especially when mom is singing along and knows all of the words. Unfortunatly for me, his attention span is 10 minutes at most and I really wanted to watch the whole 30 minute show! I guess that just means more to watch later.

I wish that children's music today was as great as it was when I was a kid. I really don't get into the whole "Wiggles" phenomenon. I guess it's ok, but I love the classics I grew up with. I do like Laurie Berkner, I think her stuff is has the same classic style of easy to sing and listen too along with great controlled movements for kids. I am really loving this being a mom thing and reliving all of my childhood fun through Nathan!

Tooth restores sight?

Blind Irishman sees with the aid of son's tooth in his eye (click picture to see the rest of the story)
This is the oddest thing I have ever heard of. Apparently you can use a tooth to restore sight? hmmmm.

Nathan has decided that he doesn't like to sleep in his crib anymore other than naps. Last night I was up for 2 hours trying anything to get him back to sleep in his crib and he just would not have it. He even fell asleep while I was holding him but as soon as I would put him down he would wake up crying. He slept the whole night without waking up to eat in our bed once I brought him in, but now that I am used to sleeping without him, it's hard to get used to it again. My neck and back are killing me today because I can't use my body pillow while he is in bed. On top of all of this our neighbors are remodeling which I don't mind, it's not that loud and I'm sure it will be beautiful when they are done, but 12 am is not my ideal time to hear scraping on the wall that my bed is on. I'm sure that bugs Nathan a little bit too. Oh well, it's been a week, maybe it will all be over soon.

Alle is coming tomorrow and I am so excited! I can't wait to see her and hang out and eat sushi!

Snow day #2!

So I decided that no one actually reads my blog, but that's ok because I am having fun writing in it! Maybe one day I'll wake up to a comment or something.
Today was snow day number two! Meaning that I didn't have to work at all this week AMAZING! I am really enjoying my time home with Nathan and it's making me really really excited for this summer when this is just our life! I also look forward to when I take my little break from teaching to stay at home full time for a while.
Nathan saw me taking a picture of the snow and posed, so I just had to take this picture. Cutest baby ever.

Snow day

This morning I got a phone call at 5:15, normally I am not so happy to be answering the phone at this time of day, but today was a day I was supposed to work so a call this early could only mean one thing! SNOW DAY! Alright, I don't hate my job and I don't want anyone to get that impression, but I love being home with Nathan, especially when it is cold and gross outside. Going back to bed for three hours was the most wonderful thing.

Right now we have about a foot of snow outside and it's still snowing, a few years ago this would have been the perfect sledding day, but right now I can't wait until my hot water is done boiling so that I can sip my hot chocolate and watch Martha Stewart talk about her favorite kitchen tools.

Mmm Squash

I knew baby food was messy, but last night Nathan took it to a whole new level when he sneezed with a mouthful of squash! Here is what he looked like, I should have taken a picture of what I looked like with squash all over my face and shirt!

Eary Monday Morning

Today I was supposed to be at a teacher in-service, but as it turns out my babysitter's daughter is sick. So instead Nathan and I are both staying home today and resting up from our busy weekend!

I have really been wanting to get out of the house lately, the winter is getting to me. I think more so this year than others just because it's harder to go out with Nathan so I usually opt to stay inside. I was starting to feel like the only places I ever saw were my house, the church and the school (which in case you didn't know is attached to the church!). So Saturday when the usual weekend question of "So, what do you want to do today?" was posed I decided that I wanted to go to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History! I haven't been in years, Anthony couldn't remember if he had ever been, and this was Nathan's first trip to a museum. He loved it! We put him in his stroller without the car seat base and he really liked being able to look around and see everything a little better. It was a much needed break from the house for both of us.

Saturday night we finally had my parents over for dinner after being married for a year and a half. It was a lot of fun until Nathan decided that he hates sleeping. This little trend has continued since then. He gets really really hyper and then cries and won't sleep. I guess I'm not catching his tired signs in enough time, but it's really hard for him to settle down when there are other people around!

Sunday we got some things done around the house after mass and then went to Noah's basketball game at JAR arena at the University of Akron. He was really excited to be playing at such a big arena and the won there game right at the very end thanks to a couple of points scored by Noah! Nathan really likes watching basketball (probably more than Anthony and myself), he actually watches where the ball goes and pays attention to what is happening even if he has no idea what any of it means. It's always a nice way to get out and see people because the game is so entertaining to him.

So that was our weekend, and now it's 6:45 on a Monday morning and I no longer have anywhere to go! I think Nathan and I are going to go back to bed for a while and re-start the day in a couple of hours.

Making Mischief

So I've decided to start a blog. I've had blogs before, but hopefully this one will be different in a few ways.

#1 I will actually write in it more than twice a year.
#2 Instead of a diary type "this is what I did today" blog I want to write about a few different things. What it's like to be a mom, cute things Nathan does, thoughts I have about current events and my faith, and maybe some fun pictures or articles I have enjoyed and want to share.
#3 Maybe other people will actually read this one! Of course that means it has to be less boring than my blogs of the past. We will see how that goes!

I decided to name the blog "Making Mischief" kind of on a "Where the Wild Things Are" theme. It's one of the best children's books ever written, (one of my favorites!) and also in a playful way describes what life with Nathan is turning into! The web address ofonekindandanother (of one kind and another) is the line that follows Max was "...making mischief..." Just another fun way to quote a great book.

Enjoy!
